Rochester Hotel Security Guard Accused of Brandishing Gun on Peace Plaza

Rochester, MN (RochesterNow)- A Stewartville man has been charged for a gun incident that happened while he was a security guard at a downtown Rochester hotel.

The criminal complaint, filed in Olmsted County Court on Wednesday, says the incident, which was captured by a surveillance camera, occurred on St. Patrick’s Day. 

Rochester police responded to the report of an assault with a firearm.

Security Guard Accused of Brandishing Gun While Escorting Two Men Out of Downtown Rochester Hotel

27-year-old Jarred Lee Clement, who is described in the complaint as a security worker for a hotel located on Peace Plaza, is charged with one count of second-degree assault. 

In an initial statement to police, Clement said the victim threatened him and became aggressive after Clement escorted him and another man out of the hotel. He denied producing a firearm and hitting the victim with it, the complaint says.

The footage shows Clement walking 4-5 steps towards the victim, producing a silver object, pointing the object at the victim and pressing it into the victim's jawline, causing the man to fall backwards, according to the complaint. 

Other Security Guard Speaks to Police

Another security guard told police there was an altercation where the victim threatened him and Clement. He stated that Clement brandished the firearm and made contact with the victim, the complaint states. 

The court document says Clement admitted to brandishing a firearm and using it to push the victim back. He told police the victim had threatened to kill him and said he initially lied to officers out of fear of losing his job. 

Clement is being charged by summons. He’s due to make his first court appearance in November. The complaint does not say which hotel he was working for.
