The survivors reported that three others were missing. Law enforcement launched a large-scale search that ended with the recovery of the bodies of the three missing boaters on Sunday.

Officers responded to the crash shortly after noon.

A Facebook post published Monday by the Pine Island Fire Department says the crash occurred around 7:45 p.m. on July 9.

Both crashes happened in Wabasha County on Sunday. The first was reported shortly before 2 p.m. and the second happened just after 5:30 p.m.

He was flying what federal authorities have described as an “Airborne Windsports Microlight aircraft,” which is similar to a motorized hang glider.
