Minneapolis Man Sentenced for Armed-Robbery Spree in Twin Cities

Minneapolis (KROC-AM News) - A Minneapolis man was sentenced to more than 21 years in federal prison Thursday for a spree of armed robberies in the Twin Cities.

Prosecutors said that 41-year-old Derrick Spillman robbed seven businesses over a three-day span in July 2020.

On the first day, he robbed a convenience store and two liquor stores where he pointed a handgun at employees and ordered them to the ground.

Two days later, he robbed three more convenience stores and a Subway restaurant where he once again pointed a handgun at employees, racked the slide of the gun, and demanded cash from the registers.

He pleaded guilty to all seven counts of robbery in August 2021.

Spillman was a known gang member with a history of violent crimes.
