Rochester Woman Sentenced for Threatening Coworker With Knife
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester woman has been given a jail sentence for threatening a coworker with a knife.
Rochester woman sentenced in workplace knife case
26-year-old Josephina Iba Omerichamoi appeared before an Olmsted County judge this morning and was ordered to serve a 10-day jail sentence with work-release privileges. She was also placed on probation for five years and was given a stayed 23-month prison sentence that could be imposed if she violates her probation.
Jury convicted woman after two-day trial
Omerichamoi was convicted by an Olmsted County jury at the end of a two-day trial last December. The jury found her guilty of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and misdemeanor fifth-degree assault.
Knife allegedly pulled during workplace dispute
According to the criminal complaint in the case, Omerichamoi was accused of brandishing a knife in the office of her manager at her workplace in Rochester in January 2024. The court document says she followed the victim into the office because the victim was going to discuss with her manager a dispute that she had with Omerichamoi.
It was alleged that Omerichamoi pulled out a pocketknife, unfolded the blade, pointed it at the victim and stated, "You can't do this to me." The charges alleged that she was holding a knife while blocking the only exit from the manager's office.
Manager intervenes during confrontation
The manager told investigators that he instructed the victim to step away and told Omerichamoi to put away the knife. After complying with the manager's request, the criminal complaint says Omerichamoi was escorted off the property before she was taken into custody by police.
