Pine Island Motorcyclist Among 6 Victims of Holiday Crashes
Wabasha, MN (KROC-AM News) - It has been an especially deadly holiday weekend on Minnesota roads.
At Least 6 Dead in Minnesota Crashes Over Labor Day Weekend
Since the start of the Labor Day holiday travel period, the State Patrol has responded to crashes that have claimed the lives of at least six people. One of the victims was a motorcyclist from Pine Island.
Pine Island Motorcyclist Among Victims of Deadly Crashes
According to the preliminary crash report, the victim was traveling west on Highway 60 near Wabasha when his motorcycle collided with a westbound van around 4 p.m. Saturday. The fatal collision occurred at the same section of the scenic highway where a 19-year-old Minneapolis man was killed in a motorcycle crash last Sunday.

The victim of the crash on Saturday has been identified as 69-year-old Donald Battey. The State Patrol has indicated that he was not wearing a helmet.
Occupants of the Other Vehicle Not Hurt
The driver of the van has been identified as 57-year-old Delila Gingerich of Zumbro Falls. There were two passengers in the van, a 14-year-old girl from Goodhue and a 67-year-old woman from Oronoco. The State Patrol reported that all three occupants of the van were uninjured.
After deadly Collision Near Kenyon
Another crash on Highway 60 resulted in the death of an elderly woman from Kansas. The State Patrol says 84-year-old Sharon Sturgill was driving a small car that collided with a pickup truck at a rural intersection near Kenyon around 2:25 p.m. Friday. The driver of the pickup, 27-year-old Tyler Bremer of Kenyon, was not hurt.
3 Killed in Northeastern Minnesota Crash
The State Patrol says three lives were lost in a head-on collision in northeastern Minnesota late Friday morning. The deadly head-on collision involved a car and a minivan on Highway 53 near the town of Orr on the Iron Range.
The driver of the car was identified as 24-year-old Abigail Holweger of Cottage Grove. The driver of the minivan was 67-year-old Sheila Friesner of Roosevelt. She and her passenger, 68-year-old Timothy Friesner, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Single Vehicle Fatal Crash on I-694
The most recent fatality occurred around 5 p.m. Saturday. The State Patrol says 61-year-old Roger Swanson of Woodbury was driving north on I-694 in Hopedale when his car left the road and collided with a bridge foundation.
